Technically speaking, Don Quixote, this enchanting suite, allows soloists and pianists whose instrumental level ranges between the end of Grade 1 and the beginning of Grade 2 (on a scale of 6) to continue developing both their instrumental and musical skills. Its themes and rhythms are inspired by the four mythical characters from Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece (1547–1616), which has become deeply rooted in the world's cultural heritage since its first publication in 1605. A work of music that encourages the joy of performance with humor while developing a strong sense of interpretation. 1. The Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance (Don Quixote) A lanky and cosmopolitan hero, he embodies righteousness, idealism and solitude, but also dreams, fantasy, imagination and, above all, self-mockery. 2. Rocinante This is the name of Don Quixote's old and gentle horse. Calmly and patiently, he endures both the fanciful adventures of his master and the company of Sancho Panza's mule. 3. Dulcinea When Don Quixote decides to become a knight-errant, he feels he must have a lady. His imagination therefore transforms a simple peasant girl into the noble “Dulcinea del Toboso”. Dulcinea (“sweetness”) becomes at once the inspiration for his passion, his reason for living, and the muse and guide for his thoughts and battles. 4. Sancho Panza Don Quixote's servant, Sancho is a stout peasant, sometimes careless and vulgar, yet unfailingly loyal. He accepts Don Quixote's whims and even goes so far as to lie to him in order to make the knight's fantastical dreams come true.
