Matei Gheorghiu's (b. 1984) War Nocturne for violin, violoncello and piano was comissioned by the Ilmari Hannikainen Piano Chamber Music Competition 2026. In this work the composer looks at the conflict between Israel and Gaza from a sad and outsider perspective: "I don't like forcing a direction or theme to the music. In this work, the original idea came by itself, and the music chose its own path."
