PASTORALE (HUNGARIAN CHRISTMAS SONG) is based on a traditional Hungarian Christmas carol 'Mennybol az angyal' (The Angel from Heaven). The song is a about the angel who appeared before the shepherds to announce Jesus's birth. Dohnányi keeps with the standard conventions of Pastorales where there are drones in the bass and the upper register has a lilting feel. Dohnányi premiered PASTORALE on December 27, 1920. Reprint edition.
