The word epithalamium describes songs or poems that offer good wishes to a newlywed couple. Charles Wuorinen expanded his original Epithalamium (for two trumpets or other instruments, EP67812) into Big Epithalamium, a five-minute antiphonal work for 8, 12, 16, or more trumpets (or other instruments) divided into two equal groups with pairs of solo and tutti parts in each. Wuorinen dedicated his celebratory piece to William Berz, the noted conductor and educator who taught at Rutgers University for over four decades.
