Beschreibung
Night Songs was commissioned by Sally Beamish’s longtime friend and supporter Dr Gerry Mattock, continuing a relationship that began with Bridging the Day in 1998. Written to celebrate Beamish’s marriage to writer Peter Thomson, the three songs set poems by Carol Ann Duffy, W. B. Yeats and W. H. Auden for viola and piano. Each explores a different musical world—lyrical, Celtic and blues—while reflecting themes of love, dreams, displacement and longing. The work is dedicated to Gerry Mattock and Peter Thomson.
