Giusuppe Verdi's opera, Un Ballo in Maschera (or The Masked Ball), adapts the events leading up to and including the assassination of King Gustav III of Sweden. Verdi experienced difficulties with censors in Naples during the opera's composition, owing to various factors such as their refusal regarding the use of a monarch's name. As such, Verdi and his librettist, Antonio Somma, made various revisions to the point where the story became barely a reflection of the initial story. The blessings of the board in Naples were given, and the opera premiered at the Teatro Apollo in Rome in 1859. This edition contains the vocal score with Piano accompaniment.
